Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi Independent Contest in Puducherry !

Press Release 1 week ago March 24, 2026

The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) has been a part of the Secular Progressive Alliance in the Union Territory of Puducherry for many years and has been contesting Assembly elections as part of this alliance. In the 2001 elections, we contested in two constituencies under the leadership of the DMK alliance. In the 2021 elections, the Congress allotted us only the Uzhavarkarai general constituency. In order to avoid any strain in the alliance, we accepted it and contested. However, we did not receive adequate cooperation from the alliance parties. Even so, we secured more than 6,000 votes.

For the upcoming Assembly elections, VCK had requested 3 constituencies. After prolonged delays, the seat-sharing arrangement between the Congress and DMK was finalized only after the nomination filing process had ended. The Congress, which is contesting in a larger number of seats in the alliance, did not come forward to allocate constituencies to other alliance parties. The DMK had offered one constituency to VCK, but even after the nomination process was completed, the specific constituency has not yet been confirmed.

Moreover, in all the constituencies where CPI candidates have filed nominations, the Congress has also fielded candidates. In such a situation, where VCK has not even been informed of its allotted constituency, our party functionaries have been subjected to unnecessary mental stress.

Therefore, VCK has decided to contest independently in the three constituencies where nominations have already been filed on behalf of the party—Oussudu, Nettapakkam, and Uzhavarkarai. In all other constituencies where we are not contesting, we will extend support to the candidates of the Secular Progressive Alliance.
