Tamil Nadu Government Must Arrest Those Involved in the Riots Under UAPA!
INDIA Alliance Must Initiate Impeachment Proceedings Against Justice G.R. Swaminathan!
The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) extends its congratulations to the Government of Tamil Nadu for preventing the riots and restoring peace in Thiruparankundram, and to all the citizens of Thiruparankundram who saved religious harmony by not succumbing to the provocation of the terrorists involved in the violence.
Terrorists were continuously engaged in hate propaganda with the intent to create a communal riot in Thiruparankundram. Deviating from the usual place where the Karthigai Deepam (lamp) is lit, they attempted to light the lamp at a different location contrary to historical evidence. Without giving room for their provocation, the Tamil Nadu government conducted the Deepam festival peacefully by lighting the lamp at the customary place. Following this, a mob of Sanatana terrorists who came from outside towns with the intent to cause a riot attacked and injured the police officers who were on security duty and destroyed public properties. We demand that the terrorists involved in the riots be arrested under the UAPA (Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act).
Justice G.R. Swaminathan of the Madras High Court, Madurai Bench, misused his authority in favor of the terrorists who came from outside Thiruparankundram and engaged in the riots. Even after the Karthigai Deepam lighting ceremony was completed peacefully, he not only permitted the terrorists to light the lamp in a manner that instigated violence but also sent CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) personnel, who are engaged in High Court security duty, to accompany them. This is a blatant misuse of power and is contrary to the Constitution and the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991. We urge the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court to take appropriate action against Justice G.R. Swaminathan, who acted against the law in this manner, caused unnecessary social tension in the Madurai and Thiruparankundram areas throughout yesterday, and attempted to disrupt law and order across the state.
We call upon the leaders of the INDIA alliance parties to initiate impeachment proceedings to remove G.R. Swaminathan from the post of judge, as he has misused his position to disrupt public peace not only in the Thiruparankundram issue but also in various other issues.
