SIR is a "Most Cruel" Plot to Make Minorities Stateless: The Alarming Warning from Cheyyur MLA Panaiyur M. Babu

In recent times, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) camps conducted by the Election Commission for voter roll verification have been widely taking place. While many consider this a normal administrative procedure, the recent speech by Cheyyur MLA Panaiyur M. Babu brings to light the severe dangers hidden behind this action. He warns that this is not a regular verification, but a "most cruel" scheme that could, in the future, render Muslims and Christians stateless.

A deeper look into MLA Panaiyur M. Babu's speech reveals four key dangers he presents regarding the SIR program.

"SIR" is a Covert NRC

MLA Babu states that the primary objective of this SIR program is the indirect implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), which could not be executed directly due to nationwide opposition. He alleges that with the NRC stalled by strong opposition from parties like the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Election Commission have formed a "joint conspiracy" to create this alternative route.

Do You Have Your Grandfather's Voter ID?

The MLA explains the practical complications of this verification process using his own experience. He recounts that when he attended a camp in the Cheyyur constituency, he was asked for the name and voter ID details of his father and grandfather. He states that if he fails to provide these details, there is a risk of his own voting right being snatched away ("I will lose my voting right"). Furthermore, he points out that 11 types of documents are required for this, and it would be difficult for "especially Muslims and Dalits" to possess all these documents.

Bihar's 60 Lakh Deletions: Is This a Preview?

He cites the state of Bihar as a clear example of the danger of this scheme. He states that after the SIR program was announced on July 4th in Bihar, at least 60 lakh voters were deleted from the rolls. He also explains the political implication: removing just 1% of voters in a constituency is enough to prevent those who would vote for the opposition, thereby altering the election results in favour of the ruling party.

"We Will Not Follow Any Actor": A Firm Political Stance

In addition to exposing this administrative and political conspiracy, the MLA also clarifies an important ideological stance in his speech. He strongly refutes the "image" being constructed that Dalit voters will follow actors when they enter politics. He firmly asserts that every individual in the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi has been trained by their leader in democracy, equality, and social justice.

"Not a single VCK member will ever follow any actor. We are opponents of Sanatana [Dharma]."

Conclusion: Why Awareness is Essential?

Panaiyur M. Babu's speech delivers a serious warning that an operation that appears to be a normal administrative procedure can, in reality, be used as a tool to remove millions of people from their voting rights and turn them into "stateless persons." This calls into question the very foundation of our democracy.
